2021-2023 | Media Arts Teacher, Middle School | Computer Science Teacher, Grades K–5 | Las Vegas, Nevada
From 2021–2023, I taught Middle School Media Arts and Elementary Computer Science at Our Lady of Las Vegas School. Building on my previous experience teaching media production, I expanded the middle school broadcast program into a daily live newscast produced and operated by eighth-grade students.
My instructional goal was not simply to teach students how to complete a broadcast, but to train them to independently manage the production process. Students learned the technical skills, production roles, communication expectations, and daily workflow required to consistently deliver a live program to the school community.
What Students Learned
- Prepare and organize daily broadcast content
- Write and review broadcast scripts
- Perform on camera during a live production
- Operate cameras and production equipment
- Manage audio and other technical components
- Work within assigned newsroom and production roles
- Follow a consistent pre-production checklist
- Communicate with other members of the production team
- Troubleshoot routine production issues
- Maintain timing and pacing during a live broadcast
- Transition between stories and segments
- Complete the broadcast on a daily deadline
- Assume responsibility for the operation of the program as a student team
Because this work was produced and stored within a private-school environment, I no longer have access to the original broadcasts or student production files following my departure from the school. The examples described on this page reflect the instructional programs and production systems I developed and supervised during my employment from 2021–2023. Please contact the principal Marissa Bello for more information on my past work.
